Sustainable construction: a savings bet for those who want to undertake

Sustainable construction is associated with the way of building in tune with the environment. Throughout the process, we seek to mitigate the impacts caused to nature through reusable materials, such as reforested wood and compacted earth bricks (learn about other materials by clicking here). Furthermore, sustainable construction guarantees greater savings for the project, with the responsible use of water and energy. According to the Green Building Council Brazil, a sustainable medium-structure project can reduce water use by up to 40%, CO2 emissions by 35% and material waste by 65%.

When compared to common projects, green construction requires a higher investment, however, over time it becomes more economical. This is because its structure aims to take advantage of natural light and ventilation, using specific materials for this purpose, such as double windows or roofs with soil and vegetation.

Another benefit that construction for sustainability offers is an increase in quality of life. By having contact with green design linked to nature, people tend to have a less stressful routine. Furthermore, visual, thermal and olfactory comfort increases, due to the absence of materials that are toxic to health.

A sustainable building can be designed for both homes and businesses. The entrepreneur who opts for a green structure makes the workspace more harmonious, with a more dynamic team and lower maintenance costs at the end of the month.

Brazil is in fourth place in the ranking of sustainable constructions, which brings together 165 countries, according to the GBC. The first sustainable building in the country was built in 2004. Today, there are 1,226 registered projects, 404 of which are certified with the LEED seal, one of the main sustainability seals issued worldwide. The enterprise that receives this certificate is seen as a high-performance, sustainable project with international recognition.

With the increase in investments in civil construction, it is essential that professionals involved in the construction process encourage sustainability. According to the Brazilian Council for Sustainable Construction, the civil sector is today one of the main responsible for environmental damage, generating 80 million tons of waste annually and consuming 75% of natural resources and 20% of water in cities.
